Yeah, I played High School ball and the pitchers were usually the better hitters and might also play short stop or 3rd base. At the next level, it's whole different game and in the majors, pitchers don't get batting practice and may not even get to hit with the DH rules.
One of the kids from our Little League played ball all the way up, pitched, hit, played short and got drafted out of High School. He'd also caught a bit and was right handed, but hit left and must have been a 400+ hitter. After he made the show and got to be a regular catcher for the Rockies for several years, he got released, got picked up by the Cubs, got a chance, but now is either back in the minors or in neverland. The kids got a great glove and strong arm, but he just never could crack much over 200 at the plate.
I can understand that having been a very good hitter in HS. My advantage was being a lefty while most pitchers were right handed. Give a lefty the ball and have him throw me inside and low curveballs and I'd wiff every time. Luckily, HS pitchers don't have those stats and the pitchers can't hit spots like the pros. My only home run off a lefty in HS was a very good pitcher, but I knew him well and played with him in an American Legion All-Star league and had gotten a lot of batting practice from him the summer prior.
