RE: I think that your dry climate might influence your opinion on 4WD.

We're probably exceptions, 4WD or AWD to get to our house. We have 4WD Tacoma, no drive train problems in 20 years, AWD BMW and CRV, neither have had drive train problems, but not the miles that we have on the Tacoma.
