I've also taken them out before getting in, while they're in the middle of chewing on the wall or the gable end vent
I regularly have chipmunks and squirrels around the yard, and bunnies and groudhogs when the foxes aren't around. I really don't care that much when they make holes in the yard, or burrow in my stone retaining walls, or eat the flowers. But if they're damaging the house and can't be chased off, I'm going to shoot them.
