My next door neighbor is in his early 50s and has had a liver transplant. I didn't inquire about why he needed the transplant. There are reasons other than alcohol. I don't think that he drinks. He told me he isn't allowed to and doesn't.
A few years ago, my blood work showed that my liver enzymes were out of range. I put my bottle of scotch in my wife's control and I am limited to no more than two drinks per day. Left to my own devices, I would definitely drink more. My enzymes returned to normal, and our set up works for me.
