The other kind of shaved ice

Here in America, we are used to shaved ice being of the sno-cone variety. A block of ice is shaved into a cup or cone, patted down, and poured with syrups.

But in the early-2000s, more and more Bay Area cafes started to make "Taiwanese-style" shaved ice. Here, the block of ice is pre-flavored, often with seasonal fruits. It is then shaved in fine ribbons. The ribbons form mounds, upon which you add condensed milk, azuki beans, boba, marshmallows, fruits, Oreo crumbs, and other toppings.

Let the ice melt a little. Then you use a spoon, and eat this dish similarly to the way you'd eat an ice cream sundae. Portions are usually such that they are too much for one person. So share and enjoy!
