the primary leader: he put the band together, named it, and drove the sound and look of the band".
Wikipedia

"Lead guitarist." Well, insofar as anyone was in the band, Brian was. I put very little faith in what the Glimmer Twins say about Brian--- there was enormous jealousy on Mick's part because of Jones' greater charisma; Keith had a complex, also, because of Brian's superior musicianship: what would countless Stones songs have sounded like without his original contributions? Song crediting: Jones reportedly cared little about it, having rejected the Byrd's offer to include him as co-writer of "Eight-miles High."
