In Reply to: The flag-waving, constantly intoning "America is great!" brand of patriotism: I don't get it. posted by tinear on May 13, 2021 at 05:35:39:
That's my impression of the hoorah-ism. I spent a lot of time in the military, and believe in service (of any kind), but the flag-waving bullshit is nauseous. Fake patriotism. The real thing is a quiet warm feeling; not an excuse to be loud and violent. Myself, I won't even go to a ballgame any more. Forced anthem allegiance is sick.
I guess the good-better-best game keeps the boilers working, but sooner or later, emotional entropy takes its pay. The 2nd thermodynamic law works politically as well. National disorder is causing pockets of order to start clumping up. Its easily seen now, like bubbles in the bath water.
