not to be glib, but fix them? if we, as a nation, don't get on this there will be the devil to pay in life and 'treasure'; it isn't going to get any cheaper or easier kicking the damn can down the road!

no, but the oversight and regulation is and it's been delegated to the industry ... but as far as tax subsidies, it can certainly be argued that it is indirectly; but you've just intimated the very real fact that the true cost of energy isn't reflected in pricing. various political considerations obviously come into play affecting this, plus the creation of consumer advocacy organizations in the last several decades keeping costs artificially low ... they may not seem that way, but they assuredly are

that said, I'm in substantial agreement with all that you've said here [sans the infrastructure safety record] and you've done a great job bringing the issues into focus by elucidating a big picture viewpoint

and not to worry, I sleep just fine when I actually do
