...Authorities are necessarily somewhat secretive about what materials a pipeline actually carries (national security and such) but I've heard that line 5 carries tar sand "oil" among other products. I've heard the same thing about that excell whatever pipeline too. Although the spin is that these pipelines provide scads of long term AMERICAN JOBS and are essential to the energy security of the upper Midwest (and maybe the US in general), there's also the fact that these pipelines facilitate getting what some believe is the most environmentally shitty oil on the planet (global warming/CO2) to a global market, esp that excell thingy. Seems that Americans would benefit mostly from handling/shipping and maybe refining that glop for export to say Europe and Asia...not much directly stays in the USofA. Not clear to me that the benefits outweigh the risks. And yeah, I know, fracked oil is almost as nasty as tar sand oil.
