That some oil and gas companies do care about the surrounding communities where they're based their operations from. To some extent, we even make them partner on the job creations as we invest in training potential employees when new opportunities arise.Anyway, I have dealt with other oil and gas companies that we acquire in the past that didn't do their due diligence when installing pipelines. The design parameters and its procedure were sound as it meets the codes barely to the minimum however, the execution was haphazard as there were so many safety code violations. Anyway, I was surprised that the pipeline was operating normally as it should.
Regarding fracking and its controversial procedures. The problem arises when the oil or gas wells are not built sturdy enough and or the reservoir doesn't have the ideal formation to hold the water, chemical, and sandblasting pressure. This could cause a leak and contaminate the groundwater. The rush into fracking procedure has not kept pace with new technology and the important environmental safeguards. I agree that it's one of the most environmentally damaging procedures out there in extracting oil and gas from the ground if its proper procedures have not adhered to. However, you can't blame the oil and gas industries as the government has a big rule in this to set up the regulations on where and what type of chemical to use and at what pressure it can be operated on before it started to create a leak to the nearby aquifer.
And those little earthquakes in the surrounding areas are caused by fluid injection during hydraulic fracturing in proximity to pre-existing faults. There have to be pre-existing faults nearby to induced earthquakes due to fracking. Similar to what's happening in Oklahoma.
