'81 GL, '81 Sedan, '82 GL, '84 GL Sedan. All had manual transmissions (the TOTL GL was only available with manual).
IMO, one of the biggest drivers of vehicle weight is engine power. Engines are a lot more powerful than they need to be and power adds weight. Not the engine itself, but more power means you need more structure, more cooling, etc.
Get out in the real world, people drive slow. They accelerate gently even on highway on-ramps. Zero-to-sixty times are irrelevant. So is top speed.
There's no need for 200 horsepower. Really 90 HP would suffice.
Less output from the engine, you can lighten the vehicle. And there won't any longer be need expensive complex tricks like direct gas injection or turbocharging either.
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
