because the author is an artful storyteller
plots only become convoluted when human nature is explored via character development and their interactions ... not to be pedantic but ...well
man against man, man against nature, and man against himself ... through character development those interactions unfold, motivations are explored and satisfying tales are spun ... of course you know this
indeed Hollywood is mostly BS and I think that this is why avid film lovers gravitate to smaller or independent productions because of the emphasis on character development
and a large part of why films rarely translate the storytelling spun in novels to the screen ... of course, as readers there's a greater 'investment' as an audience of one internalizing the story and fleshing out the written word with our own imaginations ... wrong forum for this so
