RE: Anyone watch the Oscars? The ratings set a big, new record...

The Oscars are little more than the "Hollywood" types falling all over themselves for how wonderful they are.

The next layer of the onion is the "Hollywood" version of cronyism and "we agree on stuff-ism", which, of course, also implies that some folks are "not part of our clan" and won't be getting an Oscar - however excellent their work may be. Politics is not confined to the halls of City Hall, school boards, State legislatures, or the Federal government.

Let's not forget the level to which "acceptance speeches" have sunk. Profanity is applauded. Practically every political or social "cause" must be promoted, and those who disagree must be denounced.

And then, after the "after party", they all go back to their mansions, wearing their multi-thousand dollar custom-made gowns and tuxedoes, happy as can be. All while they tell the rest of us that we need to be compassionate and giving to those who are less fortunate. When "the Hollywood types" give up their wealth to "the poor" and live in a two-bedroom/1,000 SF apartment without a staff to cater to them, THEN I'll listen to them - maybe.
