Inmate Central, where civil and family-friendly discourse about off-audio topics (other than religion and politics) is welcome.

I have been on police boards and have huge respect for the

profession and most of its practitioners.

My best friend, in mid-life, decided he'd like to become a cop. I saw the daily pressures, over the years, take an immense toll on him--- and this was in a relatively peaceful college town.

His first day on the job after training and probation, he responded to a family dispute. When he arrived, the guy had taped a shotgun to his wife's head. As my friend entered the home, the guy pulled the trigger.

Most of us never face that or anything remotely like it.
