Mr Musk could land a craft and claim a part of the Moon but being able to defend and hold on to that real estate would not only be difficult but also excessively expensive. Building and launching the rockets that would carry the material for a base and manpower required then maintaining that base would put a sizeable dent in his personal fortune.
Anyone who has seen the Saturn rocket on display at the Kennedy Space Center would be among the last to invest in such a business venture.
