Personally, I don't think that you can go wrong with....

Hyundai OR Kia.... I've owned 2 Hyundais and both were excellent vehicles. I've told this story before here but it probably bears repeating about the quality of the cars. I bought a 2000 3 door Accent as a commuter car for my wife to travel the busy #405 to work daily. She was rear-ended on the highway by a commercial truck that was traveling in the commuter lane where he had NO business being! After the accident the car looked like an accordion. However, NO one was hurt, including my then toddler son and my wife who was driving. The car STILL drove and everything worked perfectly except the look of the car. When we took it to Hyundai to see about getting it repaired, they said it was going to take up to 3 months to repair it back to the original show room condition, so we took the payoff and salvaged the car... With Hyundai and Kia being sister brands, the way they market the cars now is that Hyundai is the more luxury brand and Kia is more performance oriented and then of course there is the Genesis line which is their Infiniti or Lexus equivalent. I would urge you to drive the Elantra, I think you will be pleasantly surprised by what you get in quality for the money. Of course there is also the Elantra GT as well which is probably what I would buy if I was in the market....
