The number of guns owned isn't the same as the number of people owning guns. There are gun owners with many guns. Some guns are for duck hunting, some are for shooting paper targets. A lot of the guns will never be used.
The guns that harm people are the ones procured by individuals with the intention of harming someone. Until we figure out how to keep guns out of the hands of the bad guys, some good guys intend to have one to. That is where we are.
