A few years back my brother in law had a really nasty marriage break up.
He got bad - drinking, depressed etc etc.
So bad that in a moment of clarity, or perhaps paranoia, he unlocked his gun safe and took them all to the police to look after until he felt better.
He is still alive, remarried, better than ever.
But could have ended it all back then quite easily......
