On this date in 1970, Postal workers in NYC started an eight day walkout that soon spread to some 200,000 employees and resulted in the largest wildcat strike in US labor history. It led to the reorganization of the US Post Office into the USPS and the recognition of the rights of seven unions to engage in collective bargaining.
