The procedure is called laser lithotripsy....

They strap you to a table like you're Frankestein in a snow angel position and when you wake up you have the worst sore throat and cough... My ribs now hurt from coughing so much! But at least the stabbing pain is gone and hopefully we will be able to figure out what I need to change in order to avoid another. Apparently 50% of people who have had a kidney stone, will have repeat stones. I knew this one was there as I had a xray once that revealed it years ago... but was told that it could stay embedded in the kidney forever and never move. THAT obviously in my case turned out to NOT be true. It's a journey to be certain but one that I am reluctantly willing to take if it leads to no more stones. The Dr. that spoke to me the other day, has put the fear of God in me as he said, "Every time you pass a stone, you do damage to your kidney and your kidney does NOT heal itself". He used the analogy of if you cut your hair it grows back... if you cut off your finger it does not regenerate. THAT put it in perspective at least for me! And yes, the morphine barely cut the pain. I found myself begging for the shot about 15-20 minutes before the allotted timeslot was up because it took a little time for the drug to kick in....
