If they're academic (college) employees or pensioners, it seems that they're overpaid. Maybe that's one reason why college tuition is so expensive.

There is no, none, zero, chance that I'll ever spend thirty thousand dollars (that's $30,000 - for folks in south Chicago) on a weekend just for fun.

On the other hand, you make some good points. I wanted to hear the national anthem and the expected political antics. Unfortunately, I missed it all because I was setting up the grill for burgers - and came back inside just as one team or the other was doing something or other, so channel-surfing ensued. I say "unfortunately" because I do like to be firsthand informed about the drivel which is often presented. I also, fortunately, missed the half-time show. I expected glitzy lip-sync'd simplistic drivel, and apparently, wouldn't have been disappointed.
