Actually, the ussr expanded greatly as the result of WW2

I am not sure which territories you think they lost - they gained quite a bit from Finland, Poland, Hungary, three Baltic republics.

There were three main aggressors in WW2: Germany, Japan and Russia.

The first two were severely punished... but Russia got away like a bandit - they literally raped Germany, stealing all they could. It was done both at the personal level, when all commanders sent home trains of loot, and government, with factories upon factories dismantled and shipped to Russia.

Much of that stolen equipment was still in use when I worked there. A lot simply rusted abandoned - the typically Russian tradition of taking care of your stuff.

On top of that they refused, for many years, to pay their Lend Lease obligations. Instead their propaganda kept lying about the contribution the Allies made. Their behavior has been disgusting.

At the end of the war the Allies forcefully sent hundreds of thousands of former soviet citizens to Russia, many of them to the labor camp and death.

The victory made Stalin and his henchmen even more ruthless - their slaughter machine kept working full time. Untold numbers of military commanders and front line officers were stripped of their ranks and shot in Lubianka or sent to labor camps - thus was their reward for defeating Germany.

Like it or not, but soviet Russia was every bit as horrible as the Nazi Germany... but it not only got away with its crimes, it gained quite a bit.
