Their whole history is one huge tragedy

There has been no single bright spot in their history over the last 1000 years - it has been one Dark Ages after another.

No tradition, no periods of democracy, just a long chain of always ruthless, and mostly dumb, rulers.

There are many good people there, but they have absolutely no control over their destiny.

One good example of the Russian "freedom" is NEP - New Economic Policy, that briefly existed back in the early twenties. Anyone interested in the traditional Russian ways should read on its history.
