fusion and fission are totally different processes.
the device under discussion is a fission reactor.
the waste from fission is deadly radioactive, with half-life measured in thousands of years.
the waste from fusion is non radioactive helium - with some tritium, however the tritium is internally consumed by the fusion process as it continues.
