RE: One thing sure ...

My grandparents lived on the lake shore in Sea Breeze, and winters there were no fun. Grey, raw, and blustery most of the time. So I know what you mean. I grew up in Fairport. We tended to have more snow there, but a lot more sunny winter days and without the wind and moisture from the lake.

Yes, it was a good area for cycling, with plenty of quiet roads in good shape and some challenging hills down around the Finger Lakes. Back when I was in high school & college in the late 80s/early 90s, GVCC used to run a 10 mile time trial out of Webster park almost every week. I think it was on Thursday evenings. That was my intro to racing. I remember being really pumped up when I broke 25 min. But I didn't stick with it for long.

Another favorite Webster spot was Hedges. Our family would get together there about once a year for a special birthday or anniversary party. And a couple of times each summer we'd dock the boat at Hedges after a morning of fishing and enjoy a long lunch. We had some relatives in Webster we used to occasionally visit too, or meet for a picnic in Webster park.

After my brother died a couple years ago I haven't had a reason to visit the area. Though I do still have a cousin and an old friend there. I have young kids and the proximity of my wife's extended family is keeping us in New England for now. Otherwise I'd consider living in the area again. I really do miss being out on the lake.
