Those lawmakers did what their constituents wanted. Polls show that the majority of Republicans were in favor of overturning the election results and nearly a majority were in favor of storming the Capitol to force it. If there were enough Republicans in the House to reject the electors, POTUS and his supporters would have never gone after Pence. They would have put the pressure on the Senators and Representatives.
I think you're being naive about the whole thing. I was a Republican before Trump was elected and most of my long time friends are Republicans. My wife and I have seen many of friends get sucked into the vortex of conspiracy-laden wing nut media, especially over the last year. And they believe it ALL. SARS-CoV-2 was engineered and intentionally released as part of a grand communist takeover plot, all of our institutions have been infiltrated by commies, if Biden and the Democrats control the federal government they will shutdown the country and impose martial law, the purpose of masks is to starve your brain of oxygen so you become docile, vaccines contain tracking devices or mind control drugs, even the child sex trafficking ring nonsense. My wife's best friend had never touched a gun in her life before two months ago, and now she's got three of them and is stocking up on ammo for when the BLM and illegal immigrants come to loot her home. She lives in an upper middle class suburb of a town that has hardly any black people or immigrants! These are educated people: engineers, IT, a doctor. They are all in, and beyond rational discussion at this point.
It scares the hell out of me how quickly people are falling into this rabbit hole. Conspiracy nuts used to be on the fringe. But they are half of the Republican party now and growing.
In any case, I don't see much point in carrying this discussion further, so I'm going to stop here.
And I obviously can't point you Trump's tweets because his account is suspended. Duh.
