RE: Twitter is a private company and can ban or deplatform any user.

Agreed - these platforms were created largely for people to have discussions or keep in contact with family and friends and share funny cat videos.

That is what Facebook started out as. Then it became a platform for everyone to post their politics and religion. To defend Mark Zuckerberg a bit here - he created something and everything was fine and then it turned and now people expect him to "police" the content.

It's a no win situation of sorts. But it goes back to what you say - these are private companies and they get to set the rules.

Just like Store A that puts a sign on the door.

No shoes,
No shirts,
No service.

You want to be served - you wear the clothing.

Some restaurants have dress codes - don't have a tie you don't get served.
Wear the proper golf uniform or you don't get on the golf course.

Perhaps Mar-a-Lago has a dress code to play golf. Dress codes are the antithesis of freedom of expression!

The Republicans are fine to allow a cake shop not serve gay people so why can;t Twitter stop a lunatic from inciting violence?

A right wing nut can start a competing company called "ranter" and run a platform for all the Trumpers. Then he can join and say anything he wants.

There seems to be a huge market for niche exclusive products. Trumpers can all boycott Twitter and create their own "Ranter" platform. 74 million would join.

Start up restaurants for Trump fans only. Create your own Kentuckywood to compete with Hollywood. Then I don't have to see these Republican snowflakes whining and complaining about Hollywood Elites and their liberal agendas.

Here's a plan for these dim-bulbs - stop relying on the "liberals" to create every damn thing. Make your Kentuckywood - and hire Scott Baio and that lunatic Kirk Cameron and make your own movies. Make a Dirty Harry and Death Wish universe.

You can have freedom of speech all you like in the US if you create your own platform.

Even those of us who complain about audioasylum for deleting posts - well nothing stops me from creating RichardAsylum and as the sole moderator I can let every vicious attack go on endlessly. An open forum with no moderation whatsoever.

And the best thing is I might learn some new swear words and excellent insults - I learned some nice ones as a teacher. One was so rude (no swearing though) from a student that got me banned on a forum. But when he said it to me - I didn't know if I should punish him or credit him for an absolute great burn. It's hard to punish a student when I burst out laughing at it. The moderator on the other forum obviously didn't find it funny :( Oh well.
