It was a crazy time then. "Moratoriiums" at both many colleges and some workplaces (what are now called general strikes I guess) getting longer and longer each month. Then national guards shooting students during - and after - demonstrations.
Then a few nutcases on the left promoting and committing violence.
The papers and eveniing news every single day taken up 40% with the war, 40% with anti-war coverage, and the rest politics about both.
From what I recall those three subject areas dominated pretty much all non-work conversations from about 68 until the end of the war in 75.
