RE: Sorry

not true that if someone makes a dollar (or even a $B) that money would otherwise have gone into the hands of those at the bottom of the totem pole.

Then it sounds like you and I agree that trickle-down (Reaganomics) economics is BS.

It was always obvious that if you give a billionaire a million he wasn't using the money to hire more workers but to put it into the stock market or open a plant in China.

There is disagreement in economics by economists on a lot of issues around zero-sum game.

But I think that is a red-herring. Bezos has an ex-wife who is donating a truckload (more like a QE2 load) of money to various charities. So those billions of dollars that are "doing nothing" will now be doing something of value that will help a LOT of people.

So the "transfer of wealth" from the rich to the poor actually improves the lives of the many over the few.

You yourself have admitted that you donate to a charity you and your wife use your wealth to help people get a college diploma.

You are helping the class of people you like to call "whiners." That college student should pay it all themselves right - why are they taking handouts.

My friend is just like you - she is always ranting at people for being "on the dole" - She went up Everest and her Sherpa or whatever is dirt poor. She gave him $5,000! She is always ranting that people should make it on their own - if they're poor it's their own fault - regardless if they are born in abject poverty in a shithole country like the Philipinnes.

Then at a "personal level" she "helps" the very people she rails against when in a kind of academic abstract discussion on these topics. Ebeneezer Scrooge is happy to say let them die - it will reduce the surplus population but when confronted with Tiny Tim - he's all - "let's help him"

You guys keep saying we're envious of Bezos but it's not that. It's the belief that there is wealthy - fine great - and obscene wealth where there should be a limit to this make money merely as a competition so they can place first on the richest list.

Where you and I disagree IMO is that you want to keep your money and choose your charitable donations - where I believe the top 0.1% should be taxed heavily and the money used in society to keep the money pulsing through the society. I never have problems with "Fiscal Conservatives" nor do I oppose their stance on small government "The government should be as large as necessary and no larger" of course what is deemed necessary is debatable.

My main argument is that I am quite happy to turn 600 billionaires into $500,000 millionaires and pump the remaining wealth into the economy. My reasoning is that $500,000 million is enough to live an obscenely wealthy life for you and your progeny until the earth falls into the sun.

We can give them a nice trophy that says "You Win Capitalism" now let's feed the vets on the street. Making 600 people go from absolute idiotically rich to merely idiotically rich when it helps 30 million is a Christian thing to do. I am sorry that you can't see that. But I won't be changing this stance.
