I was a member of clamshell alliance. Went through the non violence civil disobediance training. It worked, we stopped some plants in the northeast.
Nuclear power plants were the most expensive way ever invented to generate electricity, which is the reason the utilities loved the concept.
Their monopoly agreements with local governments guaranteed a percentage return on capital investment - via rates.
The more capital investment they made, the more actual profits they were made - via rates.
7% of a billion is helluva lot more money than 7% of a million.
Radioactive half-life of 10,000 years? So what. We made our profits.
Plants fully contaminated and totally inoperable after 40 years? So what. We made our profits.
