Umm there is college dropouts

like Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, and Rush Limbaugh - three people too stupid to pass courses at fourth-rate universities and then there are people who are largely above their professors (Albert Einstein) and one could make the case for Bill Gates in his field.

Bill didn't drop out of a second rate University. He dropped out of Harvard.

"He scored 1590 out of 1600 on the Scholastic Aptitude Tests (SAT) and enrolled at Harvard College in the autumn of 1973. He chose a pre-law major but took mathematics and graduate-level computer science courses.

He left to go and become a billionaire in computers so it's not like he's some second rate clown who had to pay someone to write the SAT for him and then was so incompetent that he bankrupted his casino and is such a gifted businessman that he is $400m in debt.

People say the same thing when an actor opines about politics. These same people on various forums will say a whole bunch of things about politics - people here who work as software engineers, sales clerks, teachers, mechanics, lawyers, etc and for some reason, they get irritated if a singer or actor comments on politics because they "should stick to acting/singing" as if someone's career choice limits their ability to understand politics, international relations, macro-economics, science, etc.

One does not necessarily need a degree in the field to discuss competently the subject at hand especially when you are referencing the research of the experts in the field.

At University we write papers arguing for a given position and we quote or paraphrase the arguments or research or scientific studies made by various published experts in the field to support our arguments.

Developing critical thinkers means that on most any topic I can write an essay on virtually any topic taking any side and coherently advance that stance articulately.

Lastly, sometimes to get points across to people it is helpful if the points come from a known figure. The position can be better articulated if it comes from a good public speaker or an actor like Ronald Reagan than if it comes from someone who has a total drip of a personality.

After all - many companies hire actors to be the face or the voice of a product they wish to sell and that also means ideas they wish to sell, policies they wish to sell.

Companies do their homework. If Michael Jordan represents Nike then basketball fans may opt to buy Nike over Adidas.

If Lady Gaga is pro-LGBTQ+ and one candidate is against them - she throws her support behind the pro-LGBTQ+ candidate.

Is it more about people begrudging the fact that she and or Gates have more influence over large parts of the population people than people on this forum? Or begrudging them for having the audacity of having an opinion that they disagree with?

Clint Eastwood is a right-winger who supported W Bush and Trump and I would not stop seeing his movies. I can disagree with the guy's politics if I like his movies I will go.

I assume most of the Trump people on this board still listen to singers who are "liberal" since probably 99% of them are lefties and they still watch some TV and some movies that are generally made by people who vote blue. They don't just sit home and listen to Meatloaf and Ted Nugent and watch movies starring Scott Baio and Dean Cain.

No one seems to mind when these two actors spout off - so long as they spout off what people agree with.
