18%? I don't buy it!

We have gas for the furnace, the water heater, the dryer and the stove. Our average bill in the summer when the furnace never comes on is $25. If cooking and clothes washing is half of the usage, then, the water heater costs about $12.50 a month.

Our average gas bill in winter is about $200, so the furnace is the big user and the average annual bill is $90.

Electricity usage far exceeds our gas bill, so 18% for the water heater is impossible! OTOH, I had an electric hot water heater in another house back in the 80s. It was very expensive. I changed it over to gas and the electric bill went down $50 per month while the gas bill was next to nothing.

We also had a tankless water heater installed in our last house for a bathroom that we added that was quite far from the water heater in the garage. Since we had gas being plumbed in for other purposes for the addition, it was a wash cost wise versus running more copper to connect to the main hot water heater too. It worked really well and hot water was instantaneous. Had we piped the hot water to that bathroom, it would have taken 5 minutes or more to get hot water, so I like the idea.
