RE: Finns don't pay anywhere near 70%.

Perhaps it should be up to each State. California could be a country in itself. Since they have wildly different views than Kentucky perhaps they should do what is best for Californians not allow some country bumpkins to say how Californians should live. Vice versa.
Virtually every major CITY in the US votes Blue and most rural areas vote Red.

They have entirely different VALUES - on almost every single issue! So there is a constant head-butting.

In Canada we do not have socialized medicine - it;s a model Bernie Sanders touts and the funny thing is that if the US simply copied it - it would work much MUCH better in the US than in Canada because you have the population to support it.

Canada's system is not run by the government so right away the fear of state run or government run is off the table.

As a Canadian I CHOOSE my own doctor and which hospital I want to go to and which clinic. I go in and the doctor says I need a heart operation and here are the three approaches - YOU and YOUR DOCTOR decide what option is best - no phoning insurance companies for some non expert to deny you - no sending you to India because the operation is cheaper there to save the insurance company money (which happens in the US). No. You and your doctor decide - if the operation is 9 million dollars and you have 9 preexisting conditions the doctor signs off and the bill is sent to the government - the government pays - hence single payer. All the government does is sign the cheques.

The doctor, you, decide. You are then sent to whichever hospital is capable of that particular operation and severe cases have zero wait time.

Done and done. Now the idiots who whine (what a bunch of babies) over taxes - well if you earn $60k a year and your iffy HMO that is always looking for any excuse to NOT cover you will force you to take the doctor's third crappy option because it only cost $300,000 and you die - but hey you saved $500 a year in taxes - woohoo for you.

But I am not an American so my alternate more right wing solution is to allow each person to tick the box on a form of where they want their tax money to go.

So there is a box called "single payer medical" and you tick that box and your tax money goes to that. You get a personalized medical card in the mail. So when you go to the hospital you are in the system and you are covered. Maybe you pay and additional 5% income tax but hey - it's up to you so you are covered.

So maybe you have other boxes - where your money will be put that is inline with your belief system - 20% of your tax money can go to the border wall, 20% can go to defence spending, 40% to free way infrastructure, 20% to education.

There could be 50 things on the sheet and you choose how your taxes are to be spent. That way if you blue/red team loses you can at least earmark where your money will be spent. Now maybe a certain small % needs to be taken to actually run the government etc but at least if your guy is Trump and Trump loses then you know your tax money can be earmarked to National Defence and won't be spent on no stinking medical for all.

And when democrats lose in 2024 (and they will since only 36% of democrats voted for Biden and 64% voted against Trump) then those democrats will be putting their taxes to the Green New Deal and not putting it to stuff they don't want like cages for babies at the border.

The voter is supposed to be the boss. And any so called me me me Republican should want my proposal so your tax money is put to what YOU want. Trouble is the me me me Republican wants to spend Democrat money on the things they want but not give anything to the things democrats want.

I want both sides to be happy - so this is how it should go. 10% may go to the running of the government - but you choose where the rest of it goes.

To me and most liberals it doesn't make sense to spend more on defense than the next 5 countries combined. In a time of war you can always ramp up the military as need - Canada did this in WWII becoming the 4th largest navy in the world. We had nothing before and virtually nothing after. You spend when it is absolutely needed - not perpetually spending it when it's not required.

But like I say - if you had a tax spending form Republicans who disagree with me can tick the military spending box and put 100% in that box so you will know all your taxes will go to defence and none of your money went to increasing teacher salaries or running the CDC. And if all the voters don't pay for something then that something was not wanted and shuts down.

Personally to me it's a ll a big headache and I would rather just pay the tax in Iceland or Canada or New Zealand and be "happier."
