The New Yorker sub headline referred to a "factory in upstate New York." Corning Inc. has been trying to shed its "factory" moniker for years, having once been called Corning Glass Works. The company focuses on research now and is credited with inventing fiber optics. Don't know why I felt obliged to chime in here...it's hell living in a one company town and not working for the company.
