In the long run, it is far cheaper than the likes of Brita.
I have the Big Berkey and use it every day. 2.25 gallons a day x365 days in a year is 821.25 gallons a year.
Replace the filters in 7 years!
Brita filters should be replaced every 40 gallons - and Brita is a filter, not a purifier.
$300 isn't that bad for the stainless steel Berkey, I fill it up at night and then fill two pitchers in the morning put it in the fridge get home and great cold water to drink - make coffee/tea and ice tea with.
