I have been to 3 of the Presidential libraries, with an eye to make it...

to three more. It's fairly easy for me though as two are literally in my backyard and the other I visited on a business trip. The Reagan and Nixon libraries are both here in southern California. I have been to the Reagan library twice and the Nixon once. On a clear day, the view from the Reagan library is nothing short of spectacular! It features a fragment of the torn down Berlin wall, an archived Air Force One used by President Reagan that is perched in a way to give the appearance that it will take flight out of the building, a display of Nancy Reagan evening dresses, the final resting places of the former 40th President and the First Lady and other rotating exhibits. It is a casual yet elegant piece of architecture with a whisper of old Spanish charm. The Nixon library of course has it's unique points... it too features the resting places of the 37th President and First Lady, as well as the obligatory Watergate exhibit, Nixon's birth home (the library is built around it) and an emphasis on his foreign relations especially with regards to China. Finally, I was able to visit The Carter Center in Atlanta. IMO Carter was not much of a leader, but as a humanitarian his reputation is unmatched! Set in a beautiful green area of Atlanta, The Carter Center features a beautiful recreation of the Oval Office and a lovely grounds in a quiet and peaceful setting... much like the man himself... They are ALL unique in their own way, but my favorite is probably the Reagan library because of the view and somehow for me it does the best job of capturing what the man himself was ALL about. Someday I would very much like to make it to the Kennedy and Truman libraries and one which is yet to be built. The rest I have no desire to see....
