those needles are a year long hassle, stopping up pretty much any gutter/drain. Being on a severe slope, they also were a real danger to "let go" because of their root systems' non-adaptability to such. Every year, during the worst storms, we'd huddle and expect a limb to come hurtling through the roof. Never happened, but had plenty to remove from the yard and a few medium sized ones did bounce off the sloped part of the roof, though with no damage (except one took out an expanse of gutter).
The Sequoia, however, was no trouble: it was tens of yards from the house.
