I recently rewatched one of my favorite Horror films called "Let the Right One In" from Sweden.
Then I decided to watch the American version which was middling. A shame since it copied most of the Swedish version shot for shot.
If you have seen either version or read the novel (or you would never watch either one because you hate horror movies) - this review comparison of the two films illustrates why the latter treats the audience like dimwits.
I like the American version more than the guys in this review because taken on its own it's still a resepctable movie in the horror genre and I suspect it would still be reasonably well regarded IF you never saw the original version (and didn't really get the original version).
Lastly, I feel Let the Right One In is an elevated horror film that goes beyond the genre to a degree that eludes most horror films.
