My mother when she was in her early 80's after seeing friends in nursing homes became interested in Hemlock society. Nothing we said dissuaded her until after talking about it at dinner, next morning b-inlaw and I were standing in the hall, he asked as she shuffled towards us, just out of bed, in his Alabama accent "Sylvia are you still with us?" She thought for a second, then a big smile and that was the last she said about it.
She died at 98 a few months ago. Care included 24 hour in-home, skilled nursing recovery center, assisted living and memory unit. She suffered from dementia and actually recovered from it for a few years before it returned. I empathize with anyone going through this. It is an eye opening experience.
I did some things to try to help her that someone else may be interested in. A Raspberry PI application that controlled her TV from anywhere, internet services and Alexa. Everything was fed through her headphones including voices in the room through an omni microphone.
