RE: another non political , (maybe ?)

I enjoyed the debates in University. University is often left leaning so when they asked for volunteers to debate for the conservative or right leaning positions I generally always volunteered.

So in Criminology (Canada is anti-death penalty) I argued FOR the death penalty. In Philosophy - I argued the Pro-Life position. Wrote an essay on it as well.

There is no point in University or in high school of not arguing for the opposite opinion. Lawyers do this all the time - they have to know what the counter argument is going to be and they have to be ready for it the best they can.

Debate clubs are valuable for future lawyers as you may have to argue merits for a defendant or company that give you, personally, the creepy crawlies. This is assuming you have a conscience.
