A great film with stunning cinematography, acting, screenplay,

and editing.

Many scenes are unforgettable and deservedly have become classics. They've been copied so frequently to this point that, yes, the original appears--- dated. When this film came out, it terrified audiences. And rightly so. The elevator/blood scene is iconic. The bar scenes. The tracking shots of the boy riding his trike. The boy and his talking digit. Wendy's slow-motion horrific realization that Jack isn't writing "normally."

Like I said, a classic. And the return of the Scatman Crothers' character--- and his fate? If one says they didn't get the hell scared out of them in just that one scene--- they're lyin' or they're already dead.

Kubrick was a genius whose films look like no others. He is the most versatile great director of all time with war, sci-fi, horror, crime, historical, and drama titles that vie for the best of each respective genre. Yeah, "EWS" wasn't very good, but so many others of his films are, simply, as good as it gets.
