RE: Question on 12 volt car batteries

There is a voltage threshold that they say damage a lead acid battery. I think it is around 10.5 volts. Deep cycle batteries don't have that problem. It seemed like this has changed in the last 10 years or so, with the older batteries being more resilient. Or maybe it is just the increased vampire draw on the newer cars and how the manufacturers deal with it. For example, some German car manufacturers put huge batteries in their cars which last a long time. Some other manufacturers, small batteries. Maybe they own stock in the battery companies.
