"Please don't, as another poster suggested, "get more guns". That can't be the answer."I agree that that should not be the answer. But, what is the answer when the police are prohibited from policing? Unfortunately, when the powers that be prevent the police (per Wikipedia - "The police are a constituted body of persons empowered by a state, with the aim to enforce the law, to ensure the safety, health and possessions of citizens, and to prevent crime and civil disorder.") from enforcing the law, ensuring safety of citizens and preventing civil disorder in their neighborhood, some citizens who previously felt no need to arm themselves, now are buying guns (not necessarily getting "more guns").
When police are forbidden to take action to preserve order in a community, society breaks down. People become scared for the safety of themselves and their family. Some buy guns. When mob rule (rioters, looters, arsonists) threatens them, their family or their property, they can run, try to to defend themselves and their property with their gun(s), and in the worse case scenario, kill themselves before the mob does. OK, that last part was a bit of hyperbole, but the breakdown of society is not a trivial matter.
