I was just in Melbourne - my friend is Australian - the Minimum wage at the end of 2017 was $22 - I asked the hotel manager - $22 an hour AUD.
I asked because I wanted to know if I should tip. She said no because we pay our employees a real wage.
As you said automation has been replacing people for centuries - that will happen NO MATTER WHAT THE WAGE is - they are in EVERY McDonalds in HK and the wages here are very low. Get it through your thick skull - they will bring Kiosks in at busy locations - not some backwater state with rural dimwits who can't operate a computer.
