In all of San Diego County (~3.1 million), there have been absolutely zero deaths of anyone under 20
During this time have schools been in full session? Is there a social distance policy in San Diego? Are people following guidelines?
In places around the world that do these things there numbers are very very good. In places that don't the numbers are ugly.
So you can't say - well it's safe to go back to full classes because no kids have died - IF the reason no kids have died is because they and their families have been following the protocols to not get infected.
Sorry I don't live there so I am not sure what policies are in place in each state.
Kids dying has never been the issue - kids can spread it to granny however. And teachers and principals are not kids - they can be killed.
I can't disagree with the article. Students at my school also note that they miss playing basketball with their friends - so PE is a big subject for a lot of kids and that is very hard to be able to do on your own. I mean sure you can phone a friend to play tennis or badminton but to play baseball or football gets to be almost impossible.
I mostly agree with the last paragraph having taught in some different educational systems and knowing the theory of class size and composition but there is what is best and there is how to pay for what is best.
Fellow teachers who have taught all their lives don't sometimes "understand" the real world and the real world has to have money to pay teacher salaries and school costs etc. There is only so much money to go around so the theory may say 12 students in a class is best but the reality is - we only have x dollars so that means we stuff 36 into the class.
That's sort of where my idea comes from - if they simply cut the school day in thirds then you could reduce class sizes to thirds and so you can do the social distancing thing - the students are still going to school and getting "most" of their needs met - and the taxpayer is still getting something for their money.
I view it as a temporary inconvenience that still works - like when the down escalator fails - well yes it sucks - but you can still walk down the steps - it's temporary.
It seems like the biggest problem is that society demands perfection and no excuses are allowed - it is either perfect or nothing. The down escalator fails - who do I sue.
My previous photo is an example - it's about the kids going in the water coming out - sneezing on mom - 3 days later mom breathes on granny - 8 days later granny is dead. Take the gist of it.
