BTW: In all of San Diego County (~3.1 million), there have been absolutely zero deaths of anyone under 20.
In California, it's all political with the teacher's union being adamant that it's too dangerous for the teachers with no regard to the children or their parents. Many large districts have not even tried to make it work and just looked for state to provide leadership. Recently, schools were allowed to open for in person teaching if they filed a waiver. Many of the private schools took the offer and have been doing fine. I believe a couple of smaller cities are also plaanning to start up. The biggest districts, like San Diego Unified are zoom only which is really denying many children a decent education and will set them back which is really bad when far too many are already far behind in reading and math.
