We don't have all the evidence yet because it's hard to conduct longitudinal trials of a pandemic whilst you are IN said pandemic.

So we can wait 3 years to have more statistical reliability or we can act on the worst case scenario based on the limited information we have now.

If we are wrong and the virus isn't so bad - then we wasted some money - we've already wasted some money so a little more is not such a travesty. If the information of long term effects are correct and we act now then in the longer term we saves lives and money.

It is the same argument for climate Change and before that stop smoking campaigns and cancer. Delay delay delay and do nothing until you have 100% evidence. Then it is too late.
