Theoretically you want controlled capitalism or capitalism in check.

The government's role is to keep that capitalism in check. So government should be about making citizens safe. Business people as I linked to in other thread - reveals that roughly 1/5 CEOs are psychopaths and business people tend to place profit above other, "benefit humankind," considerations.

So the companies that dump toxic waste into a town giving everyone cancer and then trying to wait for the statute of limitations to run out are run by Psychopaths (PPG&E). So we have government as a check on all of these businesses who whenever they possibly can will skirt regulations to make a profit.

So public safety is job 1.

Then it exists to ensure roads are built and repaired and infrastructure is sound.

Next is safety of country from outside attack. If you stay out of other countries' business chances are they will stay out of yours.

I want a government only big enough to do the job properly and to stay out of my bedroom and personal life. Big enough to make sure companies are not harming society.

I want a proactive government that spends money in advance to head off problems - than a reactionary government that tends to spend ten times more money fixing things after they break.

I do not want government to wait for all the evidence to come in before lifting a finger to address the issue at hand - if 97/100 scientists say X is a problem and you need to spend $800,000,000,000 to fix it - then you spend the money - even if there are 3 dissenters. Cause if the 97 are wrong - you lost some money - that sucks - but if they are right and you don't spend the money then 20 years down the road the economic impact is 10, 40, 50 times that figure. Spend money to prevent Person A from being a drug addict criminal. It is less costly to invest money when they are 0-18 than it is when they go on crime sprees damaging property and people. All the police and court costs etc along with fixing their damage.

Preventing crime is more important and ultimately less costly than reacting to crimes that have been committed.

Business should be an entity that benefits the human race not an ends to servicing 1 person. Subsidizing these businesses at the expense of the human race needs to be altered.

The problem I see on this boards is that if one says something negative about the USA - that means I am suddenly pro China? No I can despise both of them at equal but different reasons.

I just sort of laugh though that everyone hates China for their communist regime, but it was largely Richard Nixon who chose to deal with them AND to open the door. American business (remember the psychopaths) - chose PROFIT over the American people and elected to move their businesses there and to use their sweat shop labor to make Nike Shoes and Apple iPhones and Sony TV screens and HP computers and printers that Americans all buy it up in droves.

Maybe - like Star Trek's Prime Directive - it's important to not get involved with another culture if you don't know what their culture is about. People cry about copyright or intellectual property rights - well yes these things may be valued highly in American business - but not by the Chinese. Then 20 years later you whine that they are making copies.

Maybe know something about their culture first and then decide BEFORE you deal with them whether to operate in China. I don't blame the Crocodile for eating the human that jumps in the lake. I blame the human for reading the sign and jumping in anyway. You chose to wake the sleeping Dragon and now get pissed that he gobbled you up.

The president of the US and his daughter run manufacturing plants in China. They STILL operate in China. Again - profit over people. Pay attention to what the man does not what the man says.

Capitalism is ultimately the best system - Canada, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Italy, UK, France, Sweden, Iceland, Portugal, Japan, Hong Kong, Norway etc are all Capitalist countries - but with society as a whole as the beneficiary of those businesses. You can become a millionaire or billionaire in all of these countries and make a lot of money and buy more than one home and several cars and great stereo equipment etc. In other words in any of these countries you can be rich rich rich.
