most serious discussion on serious topics - open themselves up to politics because politics is often at the heart of those discussions. Law, Climate, and War - are political.
Even audiophiles saying they won't buy a Chinese made amplifier - well that decision not to buy a Chinese product is often because people don't like the "politics" of China. I remember my dad's friend in the 1980s would never buy a Japanese car because of Pearl Harbor - again - rooted in politics.
I don't understand the Bored's policy to shut this down - shut down threats and name calling but civilized people can discuss politics for the most part just fine. Most of the people here are above the age of 50. So even if they are name calling - so what? People aren't egg shells. I've been called plenty of names - had death threats implied against me and it doesn't bother me. Heck I am an unarmed Canadian on a forum filled with gun toting Americans. So if I can take it I don't know why there needs to be a mommy task force babying 50-70 year olds here.
