The German study

The Fonarow editorial was just one of the papers posted yesterday. Here is the other, from a sample of 100 recovered patients in Germany:

https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamacardiology/fullarticle/2768916

The key finding:

" In this cohort study including 100 patients recently recovered from COVID-19 identified from a COVID-19 test center, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging revealed cardiac involvement in 78 patients (78%) and ongoing myocardial inflammation in 60 patients (60%), which was independent of preexisting conditions, severity and overall course of the acute illness, and the time from the original diagnosis."

There are two things that make this so worrisome. The first is that the percentage of people affected was so high. The second is that the recovered patients were evaluated long after their recovery (anywhere from 64-92 days after COVID-19 diagnosis) which means full recovery may take a very long time and some of the damage may be permanent.
